Optimum health is about balancing yin and yang- and maintaining healthy 50/50 balance of each
Yang is like work, or the sun= and it energises
Yin is like sleep/meditation/ the moon.= and it nourishes
In our fast paced modern world, a lot people run on adrenaline, and stimulants and caffeine, not real energy.
This is more excess yang, and deficient yin.
This is like 18hrs of sun (day), and 6 hrs of moon (night)- which is an imbalance, and can lead to depletion of your yin. Your inner resources and energy reserve.
For example, if you are working too many long hours, with excessive thinking /activity and a high achiever, and find it hard to switch off, or get enough sleep or meditate, then you could be more excess yang….
And you are probably using our adrenal energy to run on, not real energy. Adrenals are located above the kidneys in the lower back/waist area. And therefore, you may not be nourishing enough of your yin energy (sleep, mediation/rest etc). Adrenal fatigue can lead to symptoms like lower back ache, inability to switch off or sleep properly.
Chinese Medicine and the Channels:
Did you know there are 14 major channels in the body, and many interconnecting smaller channels? 6 arm channels (going from the fingertips to the chest/head), 6 leg channels (from head to feet, or feet to chest).
So, if you have a backache, for example, don’t just focus on getting rid of your backache, focus on a holistic approach. For example, the bladder channel runs from your inner eye, over your head, down your back, buttocks, behind your knees, calves, and ends at the end of your little toe (BL67). (see the model below). Support your bladder channel by nourishing your WHOLE back and legs and feet – with stretches, long singlets and keeping your lower back warm, and emotional support!
Pain in the lower back, can be caused by a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual stress/blockage in the upper thoracic back vertebrae, in your buttocks, calves, feet or chest, or anywhere!.
There are 6 channels going from the feet, up the legs to the chest or head. If they get cold, it can aggrevate the bladder channel or the lower back or the kidneys can get cold. Therefore, I recommend wearing long trousers, long skirts or dresses to keep the bladder channel warm (especially when you feel adrenally exhausted, have lower back ache, or are in the menstruating or after menstruation).
Lets nourish our precious bodies into wellness, longevity and confidence. One life..;… one chance…
Love to hear what thoughts on this….
Are you more yang too? Or more yin? How does that affect your life?…..
